Guatemala is home to Central America’s most active volcano and the deepest lake in Central America. Lake Atitlán is a massive lake in the Sierra mountain range of Guatemala, with a maximum depth of 325 meters. It is located in between the Atitlán, Tolimán, and San Pedro volcanoes. The lake also sits at an elevation of 1,560 meters. There are also many towns on the lakes’ shores and at the foothills of the volcanoes. This lake is a famous tourist attraction in Guatemala. Many people visit it to kayak through the lakes’ waters and hike the mountainous area around it. Lake Atitlán was formed after a volcanic eruption over 80,000 years ago. The lake has made the Sierra mountain range one of the most popular tourist attractions in Guatemala.
